The blade finely engraved with a gallows on one side and an inscription below with floral scroll around it, "DIE HERREN STUERREN DEM UNHEIL / ICH EXEQUIRE IHR URTHEIL - 1675" [The gentlemen who bring misfortune / I carry out their judgement], the other side engraved with an executioner's wheel above a similarly decorated inscription, "WAN ICH DAS SCHWERT DHUN UFHEBEN / WUNSCHE ICH DEM SUNDER DAS EWIGE LEBEN" [When I doth pick up the sword / I wish the sinner to life eternal], with hallmark of a helmet (?) looking left
