Serres (Olivier de, Seigneur du Pradel), Theatre d'Agriculture et Mesnage des Champs, Paris: Jamet Metayer, 1600, 4to, FIRST EDITION, engraved title by Mallery, 8 woodcut vignettes as headings to each book, 16 woodcut illustrations of parterres, woodcut decorations and initials, in an early leather binding (restored), inscription (crossed out) on title, title with restorations in the margins, a fine copy otherwise

Theatre d’Agriculture is the first major work on French agronomy. Divided into eight books, it includes information on viticulture, gardens, food, crops, and livestock. Serres was an early advocate of crop rotation and had 20,000 mulberry bushes planted in the Tuilleries Gardens to increase the breeding of silkworms.
